GSV Sport Leaders Breakfast
On Thursday 16th, some of the Lauriston Sport leaders attended the annual Girls’ Sport Victoria Sport Leaders Breakfast, where we had the opportunity to listen to Australian women’s softball team captain and Olympian, Natalie Titcume at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School. Our group consisted of Ms. Guinea, Mr. Zwar, swimming captain Lily Baxter, athletics captain Maddie Fitzgerald, cross country captain Tara Merigan, soccer captain Cassie Murrell and myself. Amongst many other GSV schools, we were split up by different captaincies per table and we listened eagerly to Natalie. She spoke of both her success and interestingly, her failure, in the sporting industry. When challenged with a question from an audience member about dealing with both preparation and failure, Natalie told us a very entertaining story about her involvement in a marathon she ran in Hawaii with no previous training, and subsequently, partaking in an additional marathon a few years later, where she spent 2 years training and the difference in outcomes from both events. Additionally, we participated in a fun activity, which involved a personality quiz to determine our individual leadership style. After an extremely entertaining morning we were left with great advice from Natalie about leadership in sport and at school.
